Detroit is undergoing an imbalanced demand for housing. An increasing number of a diverse population need to find out their housing in this city. Located on Detroit's Gold Coast, between Jefferson Ave. and the Detroit River, the project site is the neighborhood of Indian Village, situated amongst Riverfront parks and historic high-rise housing. The site offers excellent views across the river towards Belle Isle and Canada. The Whittier building was built as an apartment hotel to witness Detroit's economic boom. Meanwhile, the historic brick-decorated buildings on the site are a significant character of the city, leaving the memories for Detroiters. Besides, Owen Park and Emma Henderson Park are on both sides of the site respectively.

The promising project will facilitate a social and urban connection along the riverfront while having the potential for being catalytic, inclusive, and multicultural. It boosts the speed of residential housing in a renewing city. It also becomes the model of housing in the transition area between downtown and the edge of the city. Most importantly, it activates the historic buildings by strengthening the intimate connection of diverse residents from backgrounds, levels, and experience.
